Whether you want to just snorkel in the calm bay protected by the reef suitable for the whole family to incredible reef diving, advanced cave diving in the subterranean fresh water sink holes "Cenotes" and my favorite dive experience ever "Night Diving" where the reefs bloom with activity and small luminescent particles float around you making you feel like you are in a scene of the movie "Avatar", Akumal Dive shop is the place to go. Everyone is so friendly yet incredibly knowledgeable. Rental gear is well maintained so they can hook you up with anything you may need. I can't wait to go back and cover more of the multitude of activities available at the shop. I highly recommend them to include in your plans to visit the Mayan Riviera.

My husband and I went here as part of our honeymoon. It was a great 2 hours. We had a great guide, Raul. Hopefully, we'll have him again when we go back. I would suggest bringing an underwater camera if you can, although they do take great pics. There's plenty of sea life to see. Overall, it's a fun place for families and couples and in the end we saw rays, turtles, sea urchins, all kinds of fish, and at one point were enveloped in a school of sardines. Once we finished we got taken to the dive centre for some time to look at the pictures taken and browse the shop their staff are very friendly and helpful. I was surprised at how cheap the cd was to buy of the pictures, 350 pesos ($25.00 U.S.)! I suggest going in the afternoon all the sea life seemed ready to go.

You will find a lot of snorkel tours out of this shop, but we came for the scuba diving. There are many beautiful reefs right off shore, we really like Motorcycle reef and Lobster Condo, which are both in about 40 feet of water. Our dive master was "Condor" who had been with the Dive shop for 23 years and very experienced, great with kids. Many sea turtles where nestled in the coral, with parrot fish and plenty of small blue fish as well as angle fish, grouper and barracuda. We did a night dive which was FANTASTIC! We seen a large lion fish and watched as large Jack fish used the lights from our flashlight to hunt red squirrel fish. We also came across two green spotted eels tangled together in the coral (they didn't have a do not disturb sign up).

I was very happy with this dive shop. My husband, two college age daughters, and I took a day trip here from Playa del Carmen and were so glad we did. We had a wonderful day at this beautiful beach. I recommend getting there early, as the beach gets more and more crowded as the day goes on. The dive shop seemed very professional. Top notch. It was right on the beach and the facilities were attractive and clean. We took the snorkeling tour of Akumal Bay. We are beginners/advanced beginners. This is a good snorkeling activity for all ages, including children. It felt very safe. Thanks to our wonderful guide Mula, we had a great time. I definitely recommend paying extra for a guide. Mula was friendly, loved to laugh, and was very safety conscious.

This was our first snorkeling experience on our trip to the Mayan Riviera and I would have to say it was the best snorkeling experience we had. The lagoon is sheltered from the Caribbean, so the waters are calm enough for first-time snorkelers to feel comfortable. Almost as soon as our masks hit the water, we saw schools of fish darting around and, as we explored the lagoon, we saw more fish and greater varieties than we'd seen in previous snorkeling outings in Jamaica or Cuba. The variety of environments within the lagoon encourages snorkelers to explore, and we were surprised to find out how quickly time went by. We spend 2-1/2 hours there. The admission price is lower than theme parks and even many cenotes, so Yal Ku represents outstanding value.

Very good facilities with a nice location right on the beach at Akumal. The shop is a good size and offers all levels of diving including one on one advanced courses. The staff throughout the shop are professional and friendly. Personally, I signed up for an advanced course with Jesus and he proved to be extremely knowledgeable and safety conscious. The staff also recommended a night dive as part of the course. Thanks Antonio, the night dive was certainly one of my favourite scuba experiences to date. Plenty of octopi and lobsters..really enjoyable. Very glad that I decided to travel up each day from Tulum to Akumal. The conditions and marine life are better, you don't have to take a long boat trip to reach the dive site and there's an excellent professionally run dive shop.
